Doing it for real: Opal’s work experience week with TouchByte.

Opal Perkins, Penryn College.

We’ve had the pleasure of welcoming Opal onto the TouchByte team for her work experience week.

Opal couldn’t choose between spending her time with the legendary code monkey, Harrison, our lead software developer, or me. The voice behind TouchByte, Ellen.

Code monkey or word monkey. Tough choice.

So, Opal split her week between the two of us, learning how to craft her own copy, and her own code. Safe to say, we set her a tough challenge, which she absolutely smashed.

With the help of Harrison, Opal (in 4 days!) learnt how to code her own website, and populate it with content she had written about TouchByte and the products we offer. She presented her work to our MD, Jeremy Sneller at the end of the week, explaining how she’d created her site and showed our team all of the fantastic little features she’d added into the website. Her site even had Face Recognition animations in it, which moved when you hover over them.

Speaking as a non-technical employee of a very technical company, it’s safe to say that I was blown away by Opal’s ability to be both a content creator, and a coder. It takes a particularly multi-dimensional thinker to excel at both creative and logical thinking, and I couldn't be prouder of the progress Opal made within her week. Thank you to Kim Snowdon at Penryn College for arranging Opal’s week with us. Your dedication to your students and their futures has inspired all of us at TouchByte.

We can’t wait to see what Opal comes up with next! Thank you, and best of luck with your GCSE’s!
